A Dutch tourist in Qatar has been handed a one-year suspended prison sentence for having extramarital sex after she reported being raped.

A court in the Qatari capital of Doha also fined the 22-year-old the equivalent of 750 euros ($A1,145) and ordered her extradition, the Foreign Ministry in The Hague said on Monday.

The woman said someone had drugged her and the next thing she became aware of was waking up with torn clothes in a strange flat, her lawyer Brian Lokollo told Dutch television at the weekend.

She was arrested when she reported the rape to the police.

Sex outside marriage is banned in the conservative Muslim country.
