DV laws to be debated in Qld parliament

Queensland's parliament will sit this week, after being pushed back a week to accommodate the premier's trade mission to London and India.

The opposition's proposed changes to domestic violence laws are set to be debated in Queensland parliament this week, with sittings to resume on Tuesday.

After being pushed back a week to accommodate the premier's trade mission, the Labor government will this week introduce legislation to tighten the powers granted to health facility inspectors.

The government also plans to introduce stage two of ride-sharing reforms, which will see a new licensing regime and chain of responsibility for taxi and booked hire services.

The Liberal National Party's proposed changes to domestic violence laws, sparked by the recent death of Gold Coast mum Teresa Bradford, is among a number of bills which have already been introduced that are set to be debated.

The opposition wants to force people accused of domestic violence offences to have to prove why they should be released.

Ms Bradford was killed by her estranged husbane David on January 31 just weeks after he was released on bail.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk returned from her trade mission on Monday after visiting London to help officially launch the Queen's Baton Relay ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

She also went to India to join regional mayors meeting with Adani bosses to discuss the Carmichael coal mine project slated for Queensland's Galilee Basin.
