West Coast's forward stocks have suffered a major blow, with excitement machine Liam Ryan ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a serious ankle injury.

But spearhead Josh Kennedy is a chance to return for Saturday night's clash with Gold Coast.

Ryan has been a revelation since making his AFL debut in round one, with his amazing leap and pressure at ground level proving crucial.

The 21-year-old booted three goals in last week's 15-point win over Geelong.

But his third goal came at a major cost, with his right ankle twisting awkwardly underneath his body after lunging for the kick.

Ryan won't require surgery, but he recovery time has been put at about 12 weeks.

Kennedy is back in full training after recovering from off-season ankle surgery.

The two-time Coleman medallist rates himself a 60 per cent chance to return, but West Coast may still err on the side of caution.

Liam Duggan (leg) is a chance to return against the Suns, while Nathan Vardy (groin) and Brendon Ah Chee (ankle) are also available for selection.

West Coast's WAFL affiliate East Perth has a bye this weekend, and Ah Chee and Vardy are unlikely to earn straight recalls into the AFL line-up.
