Eagles' great Matera to join AFL tribunal

Two-time West Coast premiership player Peter Matera will be the first indigenous member of the AFL tribunal jury.

West Coast great Peter Matera is back in the AFL, becoming the first indigenous member of the tribunal jury.

The two-time premiership player, 1992 Norm Smith Medallist and AFL Hall Of Famer will become the 10th member of the jury panel from next season.

"I always wanted to get into the AFL, whether it's as a coach or in the AFL system," the 50-year-old said.

"So to be involved in the admin side ... I'm looking forward to it."

AFL inclusion and social policy manager Tanya Hosch said they hoped Matera's addition to the tribunal jury helped to encourage more indigenous involvement around the league in areas other than playing.
