Eagles' Kennedy in doubt for Roos AFL game

West Coast will give Josh Kennedy another 24 hours to prove his fitness for their AFL meeting with North Melbourne in Tasmania.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson is confident his team possesses enough weapons to cover for Josh Kennedy if the star forward misses their AFL clash with North Melbourne.

Simpson says Kennedy is battling soreness and the club will give the 30-year-old another 24 hours before making a call on his availability for Sunday's match at Blundstone Arena.

If Kennedy is passed fit he will fly to Tasmania on Saturday - a day later than his teammates.

Kennedy has booted 34 goals in 11 games this season and his loss would be a huge blow to West Coast's victory hopes.

But Simpson says the hot form of Jack Darling this season, combined with a more effective set of small forwards, have given West Coast more avenues towards goal.

"We are going to give him until the last minute," Simpson said of Kennedy.

"But the last-minute unfortunately when you travel is not 90 minutes before the game.

"We'll name him in the side.

"He's a bit sore, just in general, so we'll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and we'll make a decision tomorrow afternoon."

Kennedy missed rounds 14-16 with a hairline fracture in his leg.

"He missed a few weeks with a leg injury and just getting that body up and going is a bit of a challenge at the moment," Simpson said.

West Coast will also be without rebounding defender Lewis Jetta, who is battling calf tightness.

Defender Tom Barrass has been named as Jetta's replacement in the 22.

North welcome back Mason Wood from a hamstring injury while Will Walker has been named for his AFL debut.

Alex Morgan and Luke Davies-Uniacke go out of the side.

West Coast sit in second spot on the table with a 13-4 record while North Melbourne (9-8) are fighting to keep their finals hopes alive.

Simpson is hopeful star ruckman Nic Naitanui will be able to make his AFL return towards the back end of next season.

Naitanui underwent reconstruction on his right knee earlier this week.

The 28-year-old missed more than 18 months of football with his first reconstruction on his left knee but Simpson is hopeful the recovery won't be as long this time.

"The operation has gone well and we're planning on a standard recovery time," Simpson said.

"He didn't leave hospital in a wheelchair. Hopefully at some stage next year we'll get him back.

"I've got my fingers crossed and so does he."

Meanwhile, Eagles assistant coach Sam Mitchell is likely to leave the club at the end of the season to return home to Melbourne for family reasons.
