Eagles not anxious about tricky Gabba test

West Coast will secure second spot and two home AFL finals if they beat Brisbane at the Gabba.

West Coast midfielder Chris Masten isn't expecting the player group to be hindered by anxiety when they attempt to lock up second spot in their AFL clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.

Last week's 17-point loss to Melbourne means West Coast need to beat Brisbane on Sunday to guarantee themselves second spot and two home finals.

A loss could see the Eagles drop to as low as fourth, and West Coast could be without star forwards Jack Darling (concussion) and Josh Kennedy (shin).

The Lions sit in 15th spot on the ladder, with just five wins from 21 games.

But Brisbane have shown this year they can match it with the best when things click.

The Lions have beaten fourth-placed Hawthorn twice this season and also came close to knocking off Collingwood, Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and Adelaide.

West Coast have won their past four matches at the Gabba and Masten said the group would relish the opportunity to secure second spot on Sunday.

"I don't think (there is) any anxiety, really," Masten said.

"It's another game of footy and we've got a massive chance to secure a top-two spot, which is huge for us.

"It's more excitement, I think, to have a crack at them, lock this top-two spot in. September comes around pretty quick and (we are) looking forward to it."

West Coast have been hit with several off-field controversies this year and will be without star duo Nic Naitanui (knee) and Andrew Gaff (suspended) for the rest of the season.

But Masten said the spirits within the group remained strong, especially during important games.

"I think that's one of our biggest strengths is our spirit and our brotherhood we've got going on," Masten said.

"It's something you can't measure, you can't really see or can't really explain.

"But there's something going on in our group that's a bit special so definitely in those tight games you feel like something is going to happen always."
