Eagles rule out Liam Ryan for Giants clash

West Coast forward Liam Ryan won't play against GWS this Sunday, with the club still investigating his recent car crash.

West Coast forward Liam Ryan will miss at least one AFL match as the club continues to investigate his recent car crash.

Ryan made a surprise return to training on Tuesday, less than 30 hours after crashing his car into a tree in the Perth suburb of Armadale.

The crash happened before 6am on Monday near the home of his partner, and Ryan was reportedly found by police a short time later at a nearby park.

Although the 21-year-old escaped injury, the club is concerned about his mental health.

Football operations manager Craig Vozzo said the first-year forward will continue to co-operate with police about Monday's crash.

At this stage, West Coast have only ruled out Ryan for Sunday's clash with GWS at Optus Stadium.

But his time out of the game could be extended if a club-imposed sanction is handed down, or Ryan decides to take personal leave.

"Football considerations are secondary to his personal circumstances at present and we will wait until there is some clarity around the situation before making any further comment," Vozzo said.

The loss of Ryan against the Giants robs West Coast of another member of their already-depleted attack.

Josh Kennedy (leg) and Jack Darling (ankle) will miss another one or two weeks, while veteran Mark LeCras (wrist) will be sidelined for at least three more weeks.

If LeCras' wrist doesn't improve sufficiently in that time, season-ending surgery may be required.

Former Cat Nathan Vardy could return to West Coast's line-up this week, while Dom Sheed, Jack Petruccelle, and Daniel Venables are others in the selection mix.

West Coast have slipped to third spot following three straight losses, and they face a tough task to turn around their form against a Giants outfit which has won four straight.
