West Coast's grand final-bound forward Liam Ryan has a court date next month after being charged with drink driving.

PerthNow reports the 21-year-old will front a magistrate on October 9 after an incident which took place in early July.

Police said Ryan crashed his Toyota Rav4 into a tree and was then later found in a nearby park at 6am.

Ryan served a two-match ban at the time, telling AAP the night was a big wake-up call.

"That car crash really straightened me up," Ryan said earlier this month.

"I really had a lot of support from the boys, mainly Jetts (Louis Jetta) and mainly JK (Josh Kennedy), because he's from the same area as me.

"I had a bit of stuff going on off the field. But now I'm fine, I'm all cleared with all that, and just focused on finals footy."

The Eagles released a statement on Thursday night, saying it was aware of the charge.

"While Ryan was suspended for two AFL games by the club at the time, it has and will continue to work closely with him, with his health and wellbeing always being a priority," it read.

"The club has kept the AFL informed of all circumstances around this incident and Liam has at all times co-operated fully with police."
