Eagles up there with AFL's best: Scully

Greater Western Sydney wingman Tom Scully says the inconsistent West Coast Eagles are as capable as any AFL side when they produce their best football.

West Coast's best football this year is on par with any AFL side, according to Greater Western Sydney midfielder Tom Scully.

The gap between the Eagles' most impressive and embarrassing performances this year has been immense.

But the eighth-placed side have proven a tricky proposition when they get it right, beating premiership contenders Sydney and Geelong.

Scully believes the high-stakes nature of Saturday's clash at Spotless Stadium will bring out West Coast's best.

The equation for the inconsistent Eagles during the final fortnight of the regular season is simple: keep winning and they're guaranteed of finishing in the top eight.

"Their season is on the line. They've got a lot to play for, so we're expecting a fired-up West Coast outfit," Scully said.

"Like most sides, they've probably gone up and down a bit this year. We're no different.

"When they're playing their best football, they're as capable as anyone.

"They've played finals consistently over the last couple of years. They've got some real A-grade players and they're going to be a threat."

Scully also levelled praise on fellow hard-running wingman Andrew Gaff.

"Andrew is a fantastic player, an All-Australian player. I played a bit of junior footy with him and I admire the way he goes about it," Scully said of the West Coast star.

"He's one of the best wingers in the comp so our boys will have to try and nullify him."

The Giants are guaranteed to play finals for the second time in the club's existence but foundation player Scully noted it was important they finish the regular season strongly.

"It was fantastic to get a taste of finals last year and play in some very good games," he said.

"It was all very new to a lot of us ... now we can draw on that.

"It's an exciting time of year but we can't afford to take our eyes off the ball."
