There are more signs an announcement about a poll date could be made in the next few days.

Treasurer Wayne Swan will today release an update of the government's fiscal position and economic forecast, just two months after he handed down the budget.

And Prime Minister Julia Gillard has booked time at the National Press Club in Canberra tomorrow, for a nationally-televised address.

But Opposition finance spokesman Andrew Robb's told ABC Radio that if Ms Gillard runs off to the polls, people will be convinced that the change of leadership was no more than a political fix to get Labor through an election.
