Easing conditions help Vic bushfire

Firefighters are gaining the upper hand on a large bushfire that's burning in a national park and private land in Victoria's Mallee region.

A bushfire that threatened tiny farming communities in Victoria's Mallee region has been downgraded to an advice message.

The fire, which broke out amid high wind and heat in the Wyperfeld National Park near Hopetoun on Tuesday afternoon is not under control but there is currently no threat to communities.

The 1000 hectare bushfire is travelling in a north-easterly direction from Wyperfeld National Park towards Dattuck.

Cooler weather overnight has eased conditions but residents are being warned to remain vigilant.
