Ebden marches into semis at Newport tennis

Matthew Ebden is into the semi-finals of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships after fighting back from a set down to beat Germany's Tobias Kamke.

Australia's Matthew Ebden's Rhode Island run has continued after the qualifier advanced to the semi-finals of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

The 29-year-old came back from a set down against Germany's Tobias Kamke to win 4-6 7-6 (7-6) 6-4 in Newport on Thursday.

Ebden will face Germany's Peter Gojowczyk next after the German upset second seed and defending champion Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (1-7) 7-6 (7-4).

In the other half of the draw, American top seed John Isner will meet compatriot Dennis Novikov, and France's fourth seeded Pierre-Hugues Herbert will face Bjorn Fratangelo, also of the US, for spots in the last four.

World No.249 Ebden, who was born in South Africa, has won four ATP doubles titles but is yet to break through on the singles circuit.
