Ed Jenkins has secured his future in rugby sevens beyond the Rio Olympics, with the Australian captain signing a two-year deal to stay in the sport.

Jenkins will lead the Australian side to the Rio Olympics next month and looks set to play a part in the team's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games campaign in 2018.

"It's a brilliant time for rugby sevens with the Olympics fast approaching," he said.

The 30-year-old Sydney product has been part of the Australian sevens set-up for eight years after starting in the 15-man game as an outside back with the NSW Waratahs.

The two-time Commonwealth Games medallist said he was keen to use his experience to support the next crop of talent.

"We're looking to build depth in the program and I'm looking forward to being able to pass on my knowledge to the new players looking to make their mark over the next two years," he said.
