Former NSW Labor minister Eddie Obeid has been released from a Sydney hospital after reportedly suffering a minor stroke.

The 72-year-old was admitted to St Vincent's Hospital on Thursday night but was discharged on Friday morning.

The one-time Labor powerbroker is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of misconduct in public office nine years ago.

The jury found he lobbied a senior public servant about lucrative retail leases at Sydney's Circular Quay, without revealing his family's stake in the outlets.

Last week, Mr Obeid launched legal action against the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), its former commissioner David Ipp and other former officers.
