Parramatta forward Kenny Edwards has been charged with domestic violence, putting his troubled NRL career in jeopardy.

The 27-year-old appeared in a Parramatta court on Tuesday morning after being charged with common assault and intimidation after allegedly pouring a drink on his 26-year-old partner at their Parramatta home on Sunday.

Edwards' charge will be heard at a later date but he will be allowed to continue to train with the club.

Police said Edwards had allegedly poured water and alcohol on his partner during an early morning dispute and he was arrested later that afternoon.

He was granted bail on the condition he does not assault, threaten, harass, intimidate or destroy property belonging to his partner.

Edwards' career is hanging in the balance having been previously sacked by Manly and St George Illawarra.

He also sat out the 2015 season after being embroiled in a drugs scandal in which he took a doping test for teammate Kaysa Pritchard.

While Pritchard subsequently took the test and was cleared, Edwards was suspended for nine months for his bungled bid to beat the drug testers.

"The club views this incident as extremely serious and immediately alerted the NRL Integrity Unit," Eels chief executive Bernie Gurr said in a statement.

"Kenny will be able to continue to train and play as per the NRL code of conduct."

And NRL spokesman said the governing body would allow the court process to run before deciding on any further action.
