Once considered one of the NRL's toughest, Parramatta veteran Beau Scott looks to have paid a price for his ruggedness with his injury-forced retirement from the game.

The Eels co-captain forged a reputation as a feared hitman in 244 games for Cronulla, St George Illawarra, Newcastle and the Eels.

He was a critical part of the Dragons' breakthrough premiership in 2010, made 11 State of Origin appearances for NSW and featured in three Kangaroos Tests.

He joined Parramatta three years ago and was eventually appointed co-captain but battled to stay fit over the past 18 months before suffering a season-ending ACL injury five weeks ago.

"I feel privileged to have played the great game of rugby league professionally for the past 14 years and I'm grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have come with it," Scott said on Wednesday.

"I would like to thank all of the players, coaches and support staff who I have been associated with throughout my career and I'd like to acknowledge and thank all the fans and members who have supported me over such a long period."

His absence has been a key factor in the Eels' disappointing season so far.

"Beau is one of the most experienced members of the Parramatta Eels squad, he has always given his best and he'll be sorely missed," coach Brad Arthur said.
