Rugby league star Semi Radradra has been charged with three counts domestic violence.

NSW Police took the Parramatta Eels star into custody when he arrived at Sydney Airport from Fiji on Thursday night to be questioned over allegations from his former partner that assaulted her.

Radradra will appear in Parramatta Local Court next Tuesday.

The winger returned to Australia to face battles on various fronts, his former partner having sought an apprehended violence order against him following allegations of multiple assaults.

There was also confusion about his playing future with reports the flyer was seeking a release from his NRL contract to play in France and may be considering a switch to rugby union.

No Parramatta official was spotted.

Former Eels teammate Jarryd Hayne, who was also on the flight from Nadi, was left to do the talking.

He said Radradra told him he was returning to play for Parramatta and described him as the Eels marquee player.

"I'm more worried about the person himself than the athlete, I think that's the most important thing," Hayne said.

Asked about how Radradra had reacted to the developments of the last 48 hours when details of the AVO became public knowledge, Hayne said: "It has been a bit of mayhem by all reports but I think the biggest advice I gave to him is he's got to run a tight ship."

Haynes said it was just a coincidence that the pair were on the same flight.

Radradra had been expected to train with Parramatta on Friday morning and play against Cronulla on Saturday prior to be detained by police.
