Egypt the top Twitter hashtag

The most popular hashtag on Twitter this year was Egypt, but Charlie Sheen and Wayne Rooney join Hosni Mubarak among the most discussed people on the social media site.

Social networking site Twitter has revealed the most popular hashtags of 2011.

After charting the keywords that rose the fastest in tweets this year, Twitter announced that Egypt topped the list and President Hosni Mubarak's resignation was the hottest topic.

The second most popular hastag was TigerBlood - refering to a comment made by actor Charlie Sheen, following his sacking from a hit US comedy show.
