Thousands of people have gathered at Lakemba mosque this morning to mark the beginning of the Muslim holy festival of Eid.
Across the world, Muslims are celebrating Eid ul-Futr this Friday, which comes at the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting. Refraining from eating, drinking and sexual relations during hours of sunlight is intended to teach the virtues of humility, patience and spirituality.
Amongst the crowd was NSW Premier Kristina Keneally, who tweeted shortly afterwards.
