Eight Afghan forces die in Taliban attack

At least eight Afghan border police have been killed in attack in the Torkham border area of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province.

At least eight Afghan border police have been killed when Taliban fighters attacked an outpost in the Torkham border area of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province.

"The outpost was overrun for a short period of time and Taliban seized all weapons and equipment left," Ahmad Ali, a provincial council member from Nangarhar, said.

Attaullah Khugyani, spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial governor, confirmed Tuesday's attack but did not elaborate on the number of casualties.

"Afghan forces have retaken control of the outpost," Khugyani said.

In addition to Taliban insurgents that are fighting against Afghan forces in the province and across the country, Nangarhar has been a concentrated pocket for Islamic State militants as well.

Currently Islamic State militants have presence in four districts of Nangarhar province and since Saturday, are fighting with Afghan Forces in Pachiragam district as they take control of more ground.
