Eight people have been charged over the manufacture and distribution of drugs in southwest Sydney following raids on five properties.

A couple who allegedly threatened officers with knives during a police raid on a Sydney property are among eight people charged over a drugs ring.

Five search warrants were executed at homes in Bass Hill, Fairfield East, Villawood, Guilford West and Canley Heights on Tuesday by members of a task force investigating drug supply in southwest Sydney.

During the raids, police seized a loaded .38 calibre handgun, two loaded pen guns, electronic control devices, over 30 mobile phones, more than $100,000 in cash, a ballistics vest, numerous knives, and drugs, including methylamphetamine and heroin.

Police allege a 36-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman at the Bass Hill property threatened officers with knives , and they, along with three men, aged 36, 44 and 52, and three women, two aged 36 and one 44, are all facing a raft of charges dealing with the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and heroin.

A 15-year-old girl found at one of the properties has been released pending further inquiries.
