Elderly pedestrian killed on Gold Coast

An 89-year-old man has been killed after he was struck by a car while crossing a road on the southern Gold Coast.

An elderly pedestrian has been struck and killed by a car on the southern Gold Coast.

The 89-year-old was crossing Guineas Creek Road in Currumbin Waters when the accident happened about 3pm on Wednesday.

It's believed he sustained serious head injuries and died at the scene.

A man in his 30s was also killed in a collision involving a truck and a car near Mackay on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the station wagon was pronounced dead at the scene about 7.20am, while the truck driver received minor injuries.

It was the second fatal accident within 24 hours in north Queensland after three people, including an elderly couple, were killed when a petrol tanker collided with two cars north of Bowen on Tuesday afternoon.
