Elderly person struck with meningococcal

An elderly person has been hospitalised in Western Australia after being diagnosed with the potentially deadly meningococcal disease.

An elderly person is recovering in a West Australian hospital after being diagnosed with meningococcal W disease.

The WA Health Department says there have been 25 cases reported so far this year, including 18 serogroup W.

A total of 46 cases of the potentially deadly disease were reported in WA in 2017, which is double the number in 2016.
