South Africa's Dean Elgar has earned himself a reputation as a "grinder" among the Australian team and the opening batsman plans to continue giving the home side a lesson in patience during the second Test.
Boasting a cool attitude and conservative nature at the crease, the visitors' No.2 batsman contributed 12 and 127 in the Proteas' innings during their 177-run win at the WACA.
He fell victim to Aussie paceman Josh Hazlewood on both occasions.
"He's a bit of a grinder and very patient," Hazlewood said of Elgar on Thursday, adding the rest of South Africa's line-up seemed more willing to play at shots.
"We've just got to be more patient, hitting our areas (and) building that pressure, not just each bowler but everyone together."
But it will take plenty of steel to break the spirit of left-handed Elgar.
"That's just my nature to try and irritate the opposition ... it comes naturally," Elgar told reporters in Hobart before the second Test, which is due to start on Saturday.
"If that's the way (Australia) feel about it, it's not a bad thing. It's maybe an objective that I've achieved in the last Test and it's going to be something to try and work more going into the second Test and possibly the third Test as well."
The second of the three-Test series will be South Africa's first long-form match in Hobart, where the visitors start as favourites.
"Complacency is a big thing for us going into this Test. It's something we've addressed as a team. It's a new Test, a new challenge and a new venue for us," Elgar said.
And Australia remained a danger.
"Them being beaten in the first Test is definitely working in their favour (as well) as ours as they can bounce back and we're aware of their bounce-back ability," he said.
