Elliott's new three-year Bulldogs NRL deal

Canterbury second-rower Adam Elliott will remain with the NRL club for at least another three years after re-signing with the Bulldogs.

Canterbury have finally delivered some good news at the end of a long week, confirming the re-signing of second-rower Adam Elliott until the end of the 2020 NRL season.

The talented 22-year-old has been one of the Bulldogs' few shining lights this season, crossing for three tries and being a regular starter in the past six games.

Friday's announcement followed a week of uproar at Belmore, after Sunday's 38-0 loss to Penrith pushed them to a lowly 14th on the ladder.

"Adam has made tremendous strides this year," chief executive Raelene Castle said.

"We expect to see him continue to grow his footballing ability over the term of the contract."

Elliott, a former under-20s captain at the club, made his NRL debut last season for the Bulldogs, since playing 20 first-grade matches.

"I have been with the club since I was a teenager," he said.

"Canterbury has been a second home for me ever since I moved from the country."

His signature for a further three seasons comes despite the Bulldogs facing a distinct challenge to fit under next season's salary cap.

They have signed Aaron Woods and Kieran Foran on big-money contracts, amid reports some players could be forced out of the club to make room.

Fullback Will Hopoate also re-signed last week, leaving outside back Kerrod Holland and hooker Michael Lichaa the last of the regular first graders without a contract.
