Ellis wears armband in AFL to honour Dixon

Richmond player Brandon Ellis grew up in the same commission flats as Eurydice Dixon, whose death last week rocked Melbourne.

Richmond player Brandon Ellis wore a black armband in his side's AFL win over Geelong on Sunday as a tribute to Eurydice Dixon.

Dixon's body was found in suburban Princes Park on Wednesday morning and the 22-year-old comedian's death has rocked Melbourne.

Ellis and Dixon grew up in the same Carlton North housing commission flats and they also went to the same school.

"We all know what happened, so it's in remembrance of her," Ellis told 3AW.

"It's not acceptable, what happened ... it was a pretty tough week."

Dixon's death has meant a renewed focus on women's safety and an emotional Ellis said it's not good enough.

"It's just really sad that women can't go walking alone," he said.

"It's men who have got to have a hard look at themselves.

"It's just so sad - it's rocked the community, everyone's shocked.

"This one is for her."

Ms Dixon was raped and killed on her way home from a comedy show at the Highlander Bar in the CBD on Tuesday night.

She reportedly sent her boyfriend a message saying "I'm almost home safe" but never made it.

Jaymes Todd, 19, later handed himself into police and was charged with her rape and murder.

The City of Melbourne, state government and police are expected to meet on Monday to discuss community safety following the incident.
