Embarrassment of pace riches for Warriors

Paceman Jason Behrendorff is due back from a long-term leg injury, sparking a headache for West Australian selectors who are spoiled for choice.

West Australian selectors face an agonising pace decision with Jason Behrendorff expected to be fit for the side's next Sheffield Shield match.

A thumping nine-wicket win over Tasmania in Hobart included the discovery of a new star fast bowler in Shield debutant Cameron Green who took a first-innings 5-24 from 8.1 overs.

His figures are second only to Brad Williams' WA debut 6-74 in the summer of 1999/2000, but he had previous Shield experience.

The 17-year-old drew praise from coach Justin Langer but the emerging talent poses a difficult question as to how WA's XI can be reshuffled to make room for everyone.

"I'd be very surprised if he doesn't play next game," Langer said of Behrendorff, who has been absent since fracturing his leg during a Shield match in November.

"Joel Paris and Nathan Coulter-Nile probably still won't be available but when you've got young bowlers like Simon Mackin, David Moody and now Cameron Green, you need those senior bowlers around and we're looking forward to Jason coming back.

"He was our best bowler before the Big Bash and we're looking forward to seeing him back in action."

Mackin finished with 4-57 and 1-48 in Hobart while Moody recorded 1-57 and an equal Shield career-best 4-45.

Part-timers Andrew Tye and Hilton Cartwright also chipped in at Bellerive and took a wicket each.

The victory, which came in less then three of the scheduled four days, is the Warriors' third successive Shield win.

"We didn't have the greatest start, for various reasons, to the season but we're certainly in the hunt now and that's where you want to be," Langer said.

"We've got to play (top-placed) Victoria twice, we've got two home games at the WACA so we're giving ourselves a chance."
