A Sydney doctor under investigation for allegedly performing unlawful breast enlargements has been suspended.
The Medical Council of NSW on Thursday said it had suspended Leslie James Blackstock's practitioner's registration over concerns for patient safety.
The doctor ran the controversial cosmetic Enhance Clinic in Penrith in Sydney's west.
"Given public interest in this matter and the potential for patients at the Enhance Clinic to require follow up care, the NSW Medical Council urges any affected patients to consult their general practitioner as soon as possible," the council said in a statement.
The Enhance Clinic on Thursday said Dr Blackstock had "withdrawn" from practice.
"Dr Blackstock has faced a devastating attack personally and professionally over the last weeks," a post on the clinic's website states.
"This has had a catastrophic effect on his health. He has sought help and been advised to withdraw from practice for the unforeseeable future."
NSW Health started investigating the Enhance Clinic following media reports the clinic was not licensed, News Corp Australia reported.
The health department reportedly issued cease and desist letters but the clinic continued to operate.
A spokesman for the state's Health Care Complaints Commission told AAP on Thursday it had received a complaint about Dr Blackstock from NSW Health and it was now investigating.
