Former federal MP Emma Husar has settled a defamation case with BuzzFeed after she claimed the news site portrayed her as "a slut" and "sexually perverted".

The deal is expected to be signed off in the coming days by the publication's United States management and reporter Alice Workman, a lawyer for Ms Husar told AAP on Monday.

The matter is then scheduled to return to the Federal Court for the final time on August 6.

Ms Workman, now a journalist for The Australian, had published allegations of misconduct made against Ms Husar and examined as part of a confidential internal Labor investigation.

The ALP inquiry found Ms Husar had mistreated her electorate staff but did not find evidence to support claims of sexual harassment or that she'd flashed another federal MP.
Ms Husar claimed the publications conveyed a number of false and defamatory meanings about her including that she was a "slut who boasts about who she has had sex with, which includes other members of parliament and members of her staff".

BuzzFeed said the publications did not suggest the MP was a slut and maintained a truth defence to allegations that Ms Husar was "sexually perverted" and "engaged in inappropriate sexualised behaviour toward her staff".
