England have a long haul back in the second Test match after being reduced to 5-103 by India at stumps on day two.

The visitors still trail by 352 runs after India were bowled out earlier in the day for 455.

They lost both openers in demoralising circumstances, including captain Alistair Cook having his off-stump literally snapped in half when he was bowled by Mohammad Shami for just two.

After Joe Root and Haseeb Hameed tried to dig in either side of tea, the teenage opener went in a run-out mix-up.

Hameed was on 13 when he was sent back for a second run by Root, but wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha did well to flick the ball back to dislodge a bail from a mediocre throw.

Root cleared his mind to complete a 91-ball 50, but by then had also lost Ben Duckett, bowled by Ravi Ashwin.

Root holed out at deep mid-off soon afterwards to Ashwin for 53.

India then turned to debutant off-spinner Jayant Yadav, who had the confidence to convince Kohli to call a review for LBW against Moeen Ali, and was rewarded with his maiden wicket.

Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow staved off further loss in the 50 minutes to the close of play - and both ended the day on 12.

Earlier, Virat Kohli top scored for the Indians on 167, setting up their big lead.
