English bowler Fletcher hit on the head

Notts Outlaws bowler Luke Fletcher has been struck on the head with the ball after his first delivery in a T20 match against Birmingham.

English fast bowler Luke Fletcher was taken to hospital after being struck on the head during a Twenty20 match for Notts Outlaws at Edgbaston.

Fletcher's first ball against the Birmingham Bears was driven ferociously by Sam Hain and struck him in his follow-through.

The 28-year-old dropped to the ground before he was helped from the field with a towel covering his head and, after initial treatment at the ground, taken to hospital by ambulance.

His teammates were upset, with Samit Patel in tears, as coach Peter Moores addressed them.

The players then left the field, before returning some 30 minutes later as teammate Jake Ball tweeted a picture of Fletcher in an ambulance taking oxygen but giving a thumbs-up to the camera.
