Conservative senator Eric Abetz has paid tribute to Donald Trump's "admirable" first year in office.

On the first anniversary of the US president's inauguration, the Tasmanian Liberal senator toasted Mr Trump's corporate tax cuts and dealings with the United Nations, North Korea and Israel.

"While I haven't always been a fan, his record of achievement is admirable," Senator Abetz said on Saturday.
