Erica Packer has officially started a new life with her children in Los Angeles following her divorce from James Packer after splashing out on a $US13.5 million ($A14.7 million) property in Bel Air.

The purchase of the Tuscan-style mansion, which boasts six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, marks a huge shift in the lives of the Packer children - Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle - who a few months ago were set to grow up in Sydney's prestigious eastern suburbs.

Erica reportedly received a $A100 million divorce payment after her six-year marriage to the Australian billionaire collapsed six months ago.

The former couple and their three children spent just two months in their $A50 million Vaucluse home, which had taken several years to be completed, before Erica left Australia for Los Angeles.

Her new family home lies in one of LA's most affluent suburbs, which is also home to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Madonna and Meg Ryan.

According to real estate website Trulia.com, which broke the story, the property features a pool, a maid's suite, a climate-controlled wine room and a craft room for the kids.

The home sits on a tidy 984sqm of land, just more than a quarter the size of the former family compound in Vaucluse, which has sat largely empty since the couple separated.
