Convicted murderer Erin Patterson will appeal her guilty verdict for killing three people with toxic mushrooms.
While the paperwork is yet to be filed, Patterson's lawyer Richard Edney told an administrative hearing at Victoria's Supreme Court on Thursday that his client intended to appeal against her murder and attempted murder convictions. He did not outline the reasons for the appeal.
Patterson's legal team will have 28 days to lodge the relevant paperwork.
The Director of Public Prosecutions is yet to decide whether it will appeal Patterson's sentence, a spokesperson confirmed.
Patterson was jailed for life last month with a non-parole period of 33 years, after she was found guilty of murdering her former in-laws, Don and Gail Patterson, both 70, and Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson, 66.
In July this year, a 12-person jury found she deliberately served portions of beef Wellington that were laced with death cap mushrooms to her lunch guests in July 2023, during a meal at her home in Leongatha, Victoria.
Heather's husband, Ian Wilkinson, also ate the meal and fell seriously ill but survived. Patterson was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
In a high-profile trial that lasted more than two months in the Victorian town of Morwell, Patterson pleaded not guilty, always maintaining that the dish was accidentally poisoned.
Barrister Colin Mandy represented Patterson during her triple-murder trial, but Edney will be the one to lead the fight to quash her convictions in the Victorian Court of Appeal.
