The countdown is on for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, where musical groups from 43 countries are competing in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The grand final is held on Saturday May 14 and will be broadcast on SBS One on May 15 at 7.30pm.

Diehard Eurovision fans, Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang, will host the Eurovision coverage for SBS, doing their bit to show an Aussie presence amid this continental event.

Julia and Sam are hoping to interview all contestants, with most interviews being hosted online rather than during the busy on-air broadcast.

"A lot of them do speak English but that's not as much fun for me because I love having to go through a translator," Julia said.

The unpredictability of Eurovision and the mood of a continent nearly always leaves the contest wide open.

Looking to some of the other entries this year, Julia also likes the sound of Kati Wolf's "What about My Dreams?"

"Hungary is going berserk. Her song is a real disco stomper and it's bloody brilliant. It would be good for Hungary to win. Sweden is also up quite high," she says.

"But I'm not liking Estonia at all. I like minor notes and minor keys, so if there isn't a minor key I'm kind of not interested.

Eurovision 2011 is once again based on a mix of popular votes and jury, a rule that was reintroduced to try and offset claims of bloc voting. Consensus is that the balance is working well.
