Euthanasia petition to Tas parliament

A petition has been tabled in the Tasmanian parliament calling for the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia.

Tasmania's parliament has received a petition calling for voluntary euthanasia to be be made legal.

Labor MP Lara Giddings on Tuesday tabled the petition, signed by 686 citizens, asking for the law be changed.

"Tasmanians who are terminally ill or suffer from intolerable pain are not able to legally access medication which would enable them to end their life. People in these circumstances should have the right to die a peaceful death in a place and time of their choosing," the petition says.
