Finance Minister Mathias Cormann is confident Australia can strike a free trade deal with the European Union.

Senator Cormann is in Turkey for G20 meetings to kickstart talks on an agreement, which he says is one of the next "very exciting" opportunities to boost trade and strengthen growth in Australia.

"There is every likelihood that this will be successfully concluded," he told ABC radio on Monday following meetings with high-level officials.
