Ewan McGregor will star in season three of Emmy-winning series Fargo in a dual role.

The Scottish actor, 45, will play two central characters - brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy - in the third season, which is due to begin production later this year.
Emmit Stussy is the Parking Lot King of Minnesota - a handsome, self-made real estate mogule and family man who sees himself as an American success story.

His slightly younger brother Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer.

He's the kind of guy who peaked in high school, has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he's been dealt, and blames Emmit for his misfortunes.

The first instalment of Fargo starred Billy Bob Thornton, while the season was headlined by Patrick Wilson and Kirsten Dunst.

McGregor is the first actor cast in series 3 of Fargo, which is coming to SBS.

The Scottish star is also set to reprise his role as Renton in Trainspotting 2, 20 years after director Danny Boyle's original film was released.
