Ex-Bronco Dodds' season not over: Wolves

Mitchell Dodds has a broken tibia and fibula, but Warrington remain confident the former NRL forward can return this season.

Ex-Brisbane Broncos forward Mitchell Dodds is facing a six-month injury lay-off but Warrington head coach Tony Smith is refusing to rule him out for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old front-rower broke both his tibia and fibula during the Wolves' 30-20 Super League win over Catalans Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday.

It was only his second appearance in Super League after missing the start of the season with a wrist injury.

Dodds stayed in France to undergo surgery and is due to return to England on Wednesday.

"Mitchell Dodds had his operation yesterday," Smith said.

"It was successful and he is due out of hospital (on Tuesday) to fly back on Wednesday. Ben Stirling, head of performance services, is over there with him.

"The surgeon was pleased with the way the bones knitted back together during the operation. Without any further complications it is expected to be a six-month recovery.

"All being well, we'll see Mitch by the back end of the season for the last month - if we play for as long we can - which would be great because he certainly, in the brief time he played, did a good job for us."
