Former Geelong great Steven Johnson says he's been in talks with a number of AFL clubs - although he's still to decide whether to play on in 2016.
The triple-premiership player will come to a decision over the next few weeks on whether to extend his 253-game career.
Despite being let go by the Cats the 32-year-old says he still has a hunger to play but the decision will hinge on whether a prospective club is a good fit.
He has spoken to a few clubs, both interstate and in Melbourne, with discussions with others scheduled.
"At the moment I'm looking at the opportunities in front of me," Johnson said.
"I only want to play footy if it's a good fit for the football club and it works for me as well."
If he can't find the deal that he's looking for Johnson said he would hang up his boots without any regrets.
"I haven't 100 per cent decided that I will be playing on ... if it's a good fit then it will be likely," he said.
Johnson has been linked to Gold Coast, with former Cat Gary Ablett saying he hoped to lure his good friend north to a role that would lead to coaching duties.
The star forward said he hadn't ruled out moving interstate.
He didn't want to discuss specific details with any club but said he'd like to play with Ablett again.
"I would contemplate it (moving outside Victoria)," Johnson said.
"I was given some pretty good advice when I finished playing and that was `don't say no to anything' so I've been willing to sit down with a number of different clubs that all throw up different opportunities."
Moving to a club in the "premiership window" was appealing but wouldn't be the decisive factor.
"It's not the over-riding thing that will make my decision," he said.
