A former Macquarie portfolio manager has been jailed for at least six months for breaching court orders by trying to flee Australia.
In the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday, Justice George Palmer sentenced Oswyn de Silva to nine months in jail, with a non-parole period of six months.
De Silva, 36, who is being investigated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), pleaded guilty to being in contempt of court.
ASIC had imposed travel restrictions on De Silva, but he was stopped by police in Perth on March 1 attempting to flee the country.
Describing the contempt as serious, Justice Palmer described De Silva's actions as a "premeditated escape plan".
