Ex-Raider eager to rip in for Gold Coast

His jerseys are too small but Gold Coast recruit Shannon Boyd is loving life at the Titans as he prepares to face old club Canberra in Sunday's NRL opener.

He's Gold Coast's version of the Incredible Hulk - and Canberra aren't going to like Shannon Boyd when he's angry.

Sweating it out through a Queensland summer in an undersized Titans jersey has definitely got the 194cm, 122kg wrecking ball fired up to face his old club in Sunday's NRL opener at CBUS Super Stadium.

Boyd's only complaint about his first Titans pre-season has been coach Garth Brennan's attempts to squeeze his massive frame into too-small training gear.

"The worst part is Garth's extra-large jumpers that he's trying to make me wear, it doesn't do me any justice," the former Australia representative told AAP.

"It's a kids-size (shirt), I'm telling you."

Tight tops aside, Boyd's decision to seek new pastures after 111 games with the Raiders is ticking all the boxes for the 26-year-old.

Impressive trial displays have many tipping Boyd to be a crucial addition to the Titans as they seek an NRL finals berth for the second time in nine seasons.

"My career was getting to the point where I felt a bit stale," Boyd said.

"It was nice to change it up, new staff, new people, new everything. It's been really good ... I'm in the best shape I've been in for a long time.

"Given that, I'll be able to go out there and play some great footy again."

Even if it means leaving a few of his Raiders mates in his wake.

"There'll be a few emotions getting around a bit there in round one," he said.

"Really looking forward to it actually, (to) get in against them, it'll get me up even more."
