Ex-snowboard world champ Kreiner retires

After 14 years of World Cup competition, former snowboard world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Marion Kreiner of Austria is retiring.

Former snowboard world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Marion Kreiner is retiring after 14 years on the World Cup circuit.

"I feel like I can still compete with the best and that doesn't make my decision easier, but this is the right time to start a new chapter in my life," the 35-year-old Austrian said.

Kreiner started her World Cup career in snowboard cross but soon focused on the Alpine disciplines. She won the parallel giant slalom world title in 2009 and added Olympic bronze in parallel slalom the following year.

Kreiner won the World Cup parallel slalom title twice and secured 25 podiums.

Her last of five World Cup wins came in January, 2015, one week after winning a bronze medal at her home world championships in Kreischberg.
