Outspoken Liberal senator Cory Bernardi wants the Australian government to pull out from an international climate change agreement.

Fresh from returning from a secondment to the United Nations, Senator Bernardi says the appeal of removing bureaucratic impediments to the construction of new power stations and subsidies for uneconomic climate schemes is even stronger given the election of Donald Trump.

"His promise to withdraw from the Paris climate accord should be the catalyst for Australia to do the same," he writes in his weekly newsletter on Wednesday.
