Extreme fire danger for SA coast

Total fire bans have been issued for six South Australian districts, with temperatures set to soar across the state.

South Australia's west coast is bracing for extreme fire danger, with temperatures set to soar across the state.

The mercury in Adelaide is set to hit 39C on Saturday, with about 15,000 revellers set to swelter through the Stereosonic music festival at Bonython Park.

It will reach 42C on parts of the state's west coast, where the Country Fire Service is predicting extreme fire danger.

Severe danger is forecast for the northwest pastoral, eastern Eyre Peninsula, lower Eyre Peninsula, lower south east and Mount Lofty Ranges districts.

Total fire bans have been declared across the affected areas, with residents advised to prepare their bushfire survival plans.

The warnings come after a massive bushfire ripped through 82,000 hectares in the state's mid-north last week, claiming two lives and destroying almost 500 buildings.

Firefighters are hopeful the combination of extreme conditions that fuelled last week's blaze will not be present this weekend.

Moderate to fresh winds moving east during the heatwave are not expected to add to the fire risk, the Bureau of Meteorology says.
