An initiative has been launched in Tasmania to provide basic eye care for asylum seekers living in the community on bridging visas.
The Australian Red Cross and the Optometrists Association of Tasmania have agreed to share the cost of the scheme.
Chief Executive Officer of the Association, Geoff Squibb, says the project was developed after optometrists realised many asylum seekers were suffering from poor vision.
