Susie Wolff is ending her career as Williams Formula One team test driver and quitting motorsport, she and the team said on Wednesday.

"The time has come to hang up my helmet and call it a day," she said in a blog entry on the Huffington Post portal. "It has been an incredible journey with many ups and downs. I feel privileged to have turned my passion into my profession."

The 32-year-old Wolff of Scotland had been a development and test driver for Williams since 2012. Last year, she became the first woman in 22 years to compete in a F1 free practice, at the British Grand Prix. She started at the age of eight in kart racing and also competed in the German DTM sports car series.

"It has been a pleasure to work with Susie over the years and see her develop as a driver within the team. Her feedback and knowledge of the car has been an important part of our recent development," Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams said.

Wolff, the wife of Mercedes F1 team motorsport chief Toto Wolff, will have her final race at the November 20-21 Race of Champions event in London.
