There have been a number of political leaders who have been forced out of office since 2007.

2007: Steve Bracks steps down as Victorian premier weeks after his eldest son Nick crashed the family car while drunk. John Brumby is the replacement.

2007: Clare Martin quits as Northern Territory chief minister following talk of internal rifts in the wake of the federal intervention in remote NT indigenous communities. Paul Henderson takes over.

2008: Morris Iemma retires from politics after losing factional support to continue as NSW premier. Nathan Rees becomes premier.

 

2009: Nathan Rees is dumped by the Labor caucus and is replaced by Kristina Keneally, who becomes NSW's first female premier.

2013: Julia Gillard loses prime ministership as colleagues turnback to Kevin Rudd following dire pre-election opinion polls results.

2013: Terry Mills is rolled as NT chief minister while visiting Japan on a trade mission. Adam Giles becomes Australia's first Aboriginal state or territory leader.

2014: Barry O'Farrell announces his resignation as NSW premier after telling the NSW corruption watchdog he could not recall receiving a $3000 bottle of vintage Grange.
