Residents of bushfire-affected NSW are being warned about people pretending to collect donations for the local fire brigade.
Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade is investigating reports that people who aren't part of the brigade are asking for donations in the area of the Blue Mountains, where about 200 homes were lost to fires.
Meanwhile, donations for the Salvation Army's bushfire appeal have exceeded $5 million with half a million dollars already released in immediate assistance.
The Salvation Army's Major Jeff Winterburn says relief payments will become available as residents move into the recovery phase following the fires.
Students across the Blue Mountains returned to class on Monday, with no immediate danger posed to schools and minimal disruption to roads through the region.

NSW bushfire recovery co-ordinator Phil Koperberg says the bushfire recovery centre at Springwood has information on accommodation options and aid as people try to rebuild.
"Things are being made as relatively easy as they can be in extraordinarily difficult circumstances," he told Fairfax Radio on Monday.
Only one of the state's major fires is at "Watch and Act" status on Monday, with crews patrolling the State Mine fire at Lithgow.
One road remains closed due to smoke and back burning operations.
