Hundreds of teenage girls may have interacted with an online predator using a fake social media profile, Queensland police believe.
A 28-year-old man was charged with child exploitation offences on Monday after allegedly using a fake profile under the name "Luke Norbit" to prey on teenage girls.
Police allege the man established the fake profile, name and images in 2016 with the intent of tricking teenage girls in the Bowen and Whitsunday areas.
In late 2017 the parents of two teens contacted police after discovering inappropriate and illegal content had been sent to their children from the profile.
The man has been charged with four offences in relation to two victims, including using the internet to procure a child under the age of 16 and indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16.
He is due to appear in Bowen Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
When the account was shut down in early 2018 it had over 600 friends - most believed to be teenage girls.
Police are appealing for anyone who had contact with the account or knew the person running the account to contact them.
